- As children grow up, what they see and hear, especially from TV and the Internet, can easily influence them. Too much time on TV or the Internet can take them away from reading, studying, play and exercise. The screen may also show children bad things, like poor eating habits. Parents can do something to help decrease bad effects (影响) of TV and the Internet. They can pay attention to the type of programme and limit (限制) children’s screen time. Here are some ways: Choose programs for children to watch. Always plan what children will watch. Give choices between 2 good programs for their children. Limit screen time to 1 or 2 hours a day for children older than 2 years old. Turn to educational (教育的) shows such as the Discovery Channel, Learning Channel, and History Channel. Watch programs with children, talk about what happened on the show and talk about what was good or bad about the programme. Parents should be a good example to their children by limiting their own screen time. When the daytime programs are not good for children, try other activities like reading. Plan other fun activities for children, so they have choices instead of screen time. Try a trip to the park, a festival, a playground, or a visit to a friend’s house instead. Parents can just try these ways and help children form good screen habits.
