- Barbara Pierce was born in 1925. Her family lived in New York. She met George H. W. Bush at a dance when she was 16. They got engaged (订婚) to be married a year and a half later. George left to fight in World War Ⅱ. They got married when George came home on leave. After they got married, George and Barbara had six children. Their daughter, Robin, died before she was four. She had leukemia. Leukemia is a cancer of the bone marrow (骨髓) and blood. This made the family appreciate every human’s life even more. George was busy with his work. He became involved (使参与) in politics and public service. Barbara spent most of her time taking care of the whole family. George had to go to different places to work. Barbara did a lot of things to support her husband. For example, she planned 29 moves for the family in 44 years! George became Vice President of the United States. He served for eight years. In 1989, he was elected president. Barbara became the First Lady.
