  1. In the 13th century, Marco Polo, a famous Italian traveler, visited China. He saw many amazing things here, and paper money was one of them. People in the West didnt have paper money until the 15th century, but Chinese people started using it in the 7th century. Almost 2,000 years ago, a Chinese man named Cai Lun invented (发明) paper. Europe (欧洲) didnt make paper until 1100. Four hundred years later, a German found a way to make good paper from trees. After that, countries with lots of trees, like Canada, America, and Finland, became big paper makers. Paper has many uses. We use it to make newspapers, magazines and books. In Finland, some farmers even wear paper boots to keep warm! But remember, paper comes from trees. If we waste paper, there will be fewer trees. In our city, people throw away about 2,800 tons (吨) of paper every day. Making one ton of paper needs 17 trees. That means we cut down nearly 48,000 trees a day! So, dont waste paper! We can use both sides of paper. Instead of (代替) paper cups, we can use glass cups. When we shop, we should use fewer paper bags and reuse them if we can. Lets protect trees and use paper wisely from now on!
